For folks with NMD (such as Muscular Dystrophy), it is very important to focus on eating those foods that support the health of our detoxification organs (liver, kidneys, spleen), elimination organs (colon, lungs, kidneys), endocrine system and lymphatic system. These organs and systems play an important role in making sure the total toxic load in the body is minimized and vital nutrients are delivered to the cells.
Unfortunately, sometimes we get so focused on muscular weaknesses that we forget that there are many other key components (as mentioned above) to our body which are equally critical to our general health and wellbeing. By taking care of these, we can not only slow down the muscle breakdown, lower the pain/aches but importantly also avoid getting other unrelated diseases in the future as well.
What we choose to put in our body and mind dictates how fast or slow our health deteriorate. If we treat our body as we would treat a very close friend, we would avoid foods that cause damage to it. People with NMD (Like myself) are already weak due to muscular wasting, every bite that we eat is either going to support the functionality of our key organs or put additional burden on them. What do you choose?
Based on my research, here are some of the foods that are best for the health of our different detoxification and elimination organs (See below). We need to create a diet for ourselves that is primarily focused on these foods. For those, who are worried about proteins rest assured there is plenty of protein in plant based foods, in fact more than we actually need. If you are in doubt watch the following two documentaries.
1. Forks over knives
2. Game Changers
To your health and wellness :)
PS: I have had LGMD for the past 20 years. I take care of my body through highly nutritious diet, breathe-work, meditation and little yoga. It has made a huge difference to my quality of life. I am also a certified health coach so feel free to connect with me for tips and ideas for diet improvement and stress reduction.
