I have been using breathing exercises and meditation for the past nine years. I have found them to be an effective tool to not only quieten and calm my mind but also relax the inflamed/painful muscles and joints. Based on my research, one of the reasons breathing exercises are so effective in dealing with pain is that they help increase the blood flow to the painful areas which in-turn allows for healing and recovery to take place.
Over the past many years there had been times when I had physically active and demanding days and I didn't get to take much rest. It resulted in pain in my right hip, shoulders and lower back. The daily SKY breath meditation practice has been a God send for me. It allows me to nip the pain in the bud before it spreads even more. I personally know many folks who were dealing with a lot of pain and got lot of relief both physically and mentally by daily practicing SKY breath meditation.
It just amazes me to see how just breathing exercises and meditation can have such wide benefits. I use SKY breath meditation for pretty much everything :) from better sleep quality, stress and anxiety reduction, increase in energy, strengthening my lungs, increasing oxygen levels and most importantly getting relief from pain.
We must not forget the impact of food on pain and inflammation as well. Even though I eat very clean but when I have pain or inflammation in some parts of the body I become even more conscious of what I am putting in my body. I completely avoid all processed and junk food and increase the intake of bright & dark colored fruits (specially berries), leafy and colorful vegetables in the form of giant salads, green smoothies and plant based soups.
PS: A word of caution: Breathing exercises can be easily learned and practiced but my suggestion would be to learn it from a certified instructor who can guide and also see if you are doing it correctly.
You can explore SKY breath meditation, and see if it's for you. These days you can learn SKY breath meditation online via zoom.
Peace, Love and Blessings to All :)
